Had a great Leesburg Quarterly HUBZone meeting with our guest speaker, Mr. John Shoraka last Thursday. John is Founder and Managing Director of GovContractPros, LLC. In his previous life he was Associate Administrator of Government Contracting and Business Development at the U.S. Small Business Administration. His knowledge of the government contracting marketplace derives from decades of both infield private sector and public sector practice. As outgoing Associate Administrator of SBA, John was responsible for overseeing the federal government’s small business set-aside programs including 8(a) Business Development, HUBZone, WOSB and SDVOSB programs. Also, the Director of Army Office of Small Business Programs Ms. Kim Buehler attended as an audience member – she was our guest speaker last quarter – thank you both John and Kim for being there for HUBZone!. And special thanks to Melanie Scoggins and Leesburg Economic Development for arranging and supporting the meeting as well as ClearFocus Technologies and Kevin Cassidy for hosting (takes a HUBZone village 😊). Had some great discussion around the National HUBZone Conference held last month, as well HUBZone set-a-side numbers and percentages, ideas around how we might reach goals and thoughts about where the program is headed. Also, Loudoun SBP (School-Business Partnership) presented their Job For a Day program for Loudoun County School Students – providing students and opportunity to see how things work in a business for a day (those interested in participating can respond to jobforaday@lcps.org). Thanks to all who attended both in-person and virtually – had a great turn out and amazing open discussion! Our next meeting will be held on Thursday December 7th, from 6-8 PM at ClearFocus Technologies in the Town of Leesburg, Virginia.
